Dr. Anthony was thrilled to be a part of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) Million Dollar Challenge (MDC) for the 11th year! He was both a participant and medical provider for the ride. The MDC began in Monterey, CA on October 12, 2018, where 171 bicycle riders – including 16 challenged athletes – started their 7-day ride down the coast! The athletes covered 620 miles, primarily on Highway 1, on a route to Big Sur, Paso Robles, Solvang, Rancho Palos Verdes, Dana Point, and finally crossing the finish line in La Jolla on October 19. The weather was perfect, the camaraderie superb, and only relatively minor injuries sustained. The MDC athletes raised $1.82 million for challenged athletes, and over 80% of the monies went directly towards grants for challenged athletes’ adaptive equipment like hand cycles, prosthetic running legs, or mentorship programs.
