Thanks for asking about chloroquine (and/or zithromycin). We’re getting a lot of calls about this. Our providers have reviewed the latest worldwide clinical literature about this and we have hope that these drugs may be very helpful. A number of other drugs are also being evaluated right now and may even be more useful. The current expert recommendation is that those drugs may be tried for patients who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, are in serious condition and are being carefully monitored for complications in the hospital. It hasn’t been recommended for prophylactic use or for the 80+% of patients who have mild symptoms and are most appropriately cared for at home. It’s important to save the necessary medications for those who need it most, so right now we’re not prescribing them but are leaving that to the hospitalists who will make those decisions on a case-by-case basis. Thanks for your understanding and for helping us to maintain critical medical supplies for those who need them most.
